D of E

The Duke of Edinburgh Programme is a real adventure from beginning to end. It doesn’t matter who you are or where you’re from. To join our County group you just need to be a member of Girlguiding aged between 14 and 25 and realise there’s more to life than sitting on a sofa watching life pass you by. So take the plunge have fun make new friends and gain an experience you will probably remember for the rest of your life. If you started your award ages ago then there’s still no excuse if you are still within the age range then you can just continue where you left off. If you were registered with another organisation then contact me and I should be able to transfer you if that’s what you would like to do.

If you are still reading then you must be interested – Here is the extra stuff you need to know:

You achieve your Award by completing a personal programme of activities in four sections (five if you're going for Gold) - Volunteering, Physical, Skills, Expedition and for Gold, a Residential. You'll find yourself helping people or the community, getting fitter, developing skills, going on an expedition and taking part in a residential activity (Gold only). You can use things you already do for example if you are a Young Leader or Adult Leader then your Volunteering section will probably be almost complete already!

The best bit is - you get to choose what you do!

Your programme can be full of activities and projects that get you buzzing, and along the way you’ll pick up experiences, friends and talents that will stay with you for the rest of your life.

Still not sure – Here is what others have said when they were asked “Why Bother

…achieving an Award will give you skills, confidence and a view on life that everyone is looking for, from employers to colleges and universities.

...you're getting recognised for doing things you want to do (and may even be doing already).

...you’ll make a difference to other people’s lives and your community, be fitter and healthier, make new friends and have memories to last you a lifetime.

And above all, it's a great laugh - the question should really be why wouldn't you bother! Doing your DofE really does give you the skills for life and work.

Congratulations, you're about to start an adventure you’ll never forget!

If you (Adult Leaders are always welcome to come along too!) or any of your girls are considering a new adventure for 2014 then please do get in touch with me. Now is an excellent time to sign up to the award as our County Trainings for Expeditions will begin in March for 2014. If you would like someone to come and meet you then just get in touch and we will try to call into your unit meeting and give you all the information you need to get started. We are more than happy to talk to just one person or to a group depending on your circumstances. Lots of people come on their own for the first time so don’t.chigwell worry if that’s you!

Hope to hear from you soon Yvonne Scott www.chigwellrow.org.uk
